Alloy Analysis

Analysis of alloys is the most popular application in the World and it is used for identification of alloy grade and chemical composition of any single sample. Whilst PMI (Positive Material Identification) is used just for alloy grade authentication, Alloy mode shows complete element composition. Such measurements are carried out by x-ray fluorescence (XRF) alloy testers Elvatech in a wide range of different industries: from mining testing to scrap sorting.

This mode has been successfully proved by time in such application as:

  • In foundry – to create manually alloy grades with particular physical and chemical properties by adding or removing elements.
  • In metallurgical workflows and metalworking – defining required concentration of expensive metals. Therefore, that helps to optimize the metal sample cost. That is necessary for providing more competitive products on the market.

Testing alloys with XRF Spectrometer

A portable XRF spectrometer with alloy mode calibration is a type of instrument that is used worldwide for chemical analysis of materials. These devices show the concentration of elements from Mg (12) to Pu (94) and have the next advantages:

  • Non-destructive testing: the top surface of any alloy is not destroyed during testing, which is critical when for some applications where lose of commercial value is unacceptable.
  • Fast and accurate analysis: duration time from only a few seconds allows to get perfect results with precise and accurate chemical composition of samples.
  • Safety: Due to fast analysis Elvatech analysers emit lower exposure of x-rays. In addition to that, our spectrometers possess advanced safety degrees of protection which helps to minimize the impact of harmful x-rays.

pXRF guns with alloy mode

Through a wide range of different manufacturers on the market, it is not easy to choose a proper analyzer with alloy mode, customers usually consider precision, accuracy, duration of analysis, durability and service. Elvatech Canada offers two models ProSpector 2 and ProSpector 3, which meet all the necessary criterias.

Each model demonstrates the highest level of precision and accuracy when measuring concentration of element, at least three times faster analysis compared to any competitor analogs, and a long-life repeatability of the analysis with no need for system recalibration. Besides this, ProSpector 3 is highly compact, the lightest in the world and convenient in usage.

In addition to handheld guns, Elvatech also offers benchtop spectrometers – ElvaX Basic, ElvaX Pro, ElvaX Plus, designed for a more significant scope of analysis.

Metal alloys Can Be Identified by portable XRF guns

Compared to the most powerful laboratory benchtop spectrometers for accurate measurement of elements at unprecedented LOD, a handheld gun with Alloy mode provides sufficient results in-field. It can analyze a wide range of alloy bases:

  • Magnesium alloys
  • Aluminium alloys
  • Titanium alloys
  • Stainless steels
  • Low alloy steels
  • Tool steels
  • Cobalt alloys
  • Nickel alloys
  • Copper alloys
  • Zinc alloys
  • Precious alloys
