Catalytic converters in cars are used worldwide for reduction of harmful emissions, such as carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HxCy) and nitrogen oxides (NOx). These hazardous substances are converted into neutral carbon dioxide (CO2), water and nitrogen by catalytic chemical reactions, which are accelerated by the main three elements of platinum group such as Pt (platinum), Pd (palladium) and Rh (rhodium).

Through a wide variety of different types of car catalysts, concentration of the PGM elements changes pretty much. Because of that, XRF spectrometers ELVATECH are ideal instruments for fast and accurate analysis of Pt, Pd, Rh concentration, sorting and price evaluation.
