The field portable press
The field portable press is designed to allow proper light element analysis for soil and rock samples in the field. It also improves the repeatability and precision for heavy element analysis by providing a homogenous, defined sample preparation.
For light elements < Ca the sample press is crucial to produce repeatable data for 2 key physical effects:
- It provides a smooth, dense surface
- It allows to avoid a sample film which is otherwise diminishing the signal intensity by more than 50% for Mg; more than 95% for Na
For light element analysis it is also imperative that the particle size of the sample is small which can be achieved in the field by the Rotary Rock Sampler or the Beater Mill.
For HH XRF and field portable sample preparation equipment it is now possible to achieve results with near laboratory analytical quality. This is not possible by point and shoot methods particularly for light element samples. This has not even much to do with the HH XRF itself, it is plain physics of the sample conditions.
The Field Portable 4Ton press is designed for producing high quality pellets WITHOUT the need for binder material. This is because of the cylindrical shape / form factor compared to disc shaped laboratory made discs. Of course the field produced discs may not be as stable and the quality depends highly on the material itself and how well the samples are ground.
Except for very simple “household” consumables (paper/ PE Film) there are no consumables when the actual high strength Nylon pellet tubes are reused.

ELVATECH CANADA sells, rents, repairs, and provides service for XRF spectrometers and analyzers to customers all across Canada. Delivery is carried out by courier services directly from our head office in Edmonton based on CPT, Incoterms 2020.
Delivery time can vary from 1 to 12 weeks depending on the type of spectrometer, installed modes and calibrations, as well as availability of instruments in our stock.
Equipment is usually shipped after 100% payment is received to our bank account. Individual payment terms are provided for regular partners and dealers.
